Last month, a great Atlanta rock band, The Hiss, broke up. After seven years, the band never quite made it despite briefly flirting with mainstream success in late 2003/early 2004. I’ve always had a hard time comparing these guys to other bands, but I would say they fall somewhere between Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and the Foo Fighters.
Their first full length release, Panic Movement, is a great album start to finish, mixing catchy riffs and hooks with balls out rock and never stopping to take a breath. Unfortunately (for you…I have the album), none of the songs are currently available on their MySpace page, but you can check out a couple of their songs below. The first is called “Clever Kicks,” and the second is called “Back on the Radio” and gives you an idea of how they sound live.
Since then, the band replaced a few original members and released some more music that never gained any traction. But I was lucky enough to see them play last summer, and they could still rock the house.
So R.I.P. The Hiss, and I guess that copy of your four-song demo/EP that you signed at Stone Mountain in 2003 just became worth a little more.
